2010 AICP STUDENT PROJECT AWARD

The MURP workshop project, "No Vacancy! Exploring Temporary Use of Empty Space in the Central Eastside Industrial District", developed by Rebecca Dann, Briana Meier, Emily Rice and Beth Somerfield - all graduates of the 2009 MURP program at PSU - garnered the 2010 AICP Student Project Award in the category of Contribution of Planning to a Contemporary Issue. The AICP award recognizes outstanding class projects by student groups in accredited planning programs. The project investigated the potential to enliven Portland's Central Eastside Industrial District by activating vacant spaces with temporary uses. Further information on the project can be seen at http://novacancyproject.wordpress.com.

Shayna Rehberg is serving as a member of the Columbia River Crossing Ped Bike Advisory Committee.

Angelo Planning Group, along with the Oregon Department of Transportation, received the Oregon Chapter of the American Planning Association's 2005 Special Achievement in Planning Award for their Trip Cap Measures Cookbook. APG was asked to help ODOT Region 3 prepare a "cookbook" to aid communities in managing land use impacts on transportation facilities. Of special concern was the impact of development near freeway interchanges with limited capacity. APG was the principal author for the cookbook, which outlines trip allocation and trip cap programs. The book also includes "recipes" that offer step-by-step directions for implementing the solutions outlined in the cookbook. The book is the only one of its kind in the United States.
